Our story.

Sequoyah Retreat founders Suzy and Shane, are two passionate individuals with diverse backgrounds in real estate, life coaching, and holistic healing. Their journey took them to the heart of Peru, where they immersed themselves in the rich culture of indigenous communities and discovered the profound healing power of plants. This transformative experience ignited a passion within them to create a sanctuary where others could also reconnect with nature and embark on their own paths of healing and self-discovery.

Their mission at Sequoyah Retreat is deeply rooted in personal experience. In 2016, Suzy faced a devastating loss when her 27-year-old brother tragically took his own life. The trauma of discovering him sent Suzy into a whirlwind of grief, depression, and PTSD. Similarly, at the age of 42, Shane embarked on a journey to connect with his biological family, having spent a lifetime without knowing his father. Unveiling his father's battle with mental illness, which ultimately ended in suicide, deeply impacted Shane, further propelling their shared purpose to provide a haven for healing and renewal.

In 2022 Suzy and Shane began a seven-month journey from Northern Queensland to Tasmania, selling their home and belongings in pursuit of a special property that would fulfill their life's purpose. Traveling with only what could fit in their car and caravan, living on the road provided them with a sense of freedom and a realisation that living a simpler life was more full filling. Their travels led them to an oasis—a breathtaking property with a rustic cabin—in one of Australia's most picturesque locations. Their journey led them to discover Sequoyah Retreat, where they felt a profound sense of alignment as if all their worlds had finally converged.
